Book 7: The Mysteries of Pilgrimage
Imam al-Ghazali · Ihya’ ‘Ulum al-Din
  1. "These conditions also apply to 'Umrah, except for the time. For a free adult, voluntary Hajj occurs after fulfilling the obligation of Islamic Hajj. The order is as follows: first, the fulfillment of Islamic Hajj, then making up for a corrupted Hajj, then a vow, deputation, and finally voluntary Hajj."

  2. "and then died, they meet Allah without the obligation of Hajj upon them. Those who die without performing Hajj despite having the means face severe consequences before Allah. Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, expressed his intention to impose a tax on those who have the means to perform Hajj but do not."

  3. "Chapter one: On the virtues of Hajj, the virtues of the House, Mecca, and Medina, may Allah protect them, and the setting out for the mosques. The Virtue of Hajj Allah Almighty said: "Proclaim the pilgrimage to people; they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel, coming from every distant pass."

Volume Two: From India to the Lands of the West
Ibn Battuta · Rihla — The Travels of Ibn Battuta
  1. "to the adherents among the poor. In Granada, there are numerous poor Persians who settled there due to its resemblance to their homeland, among them, Hajj Abu Abdullah Samarkandi, Hajj Ahmad Tabrizi, Hajj Ibrahim Kanawi, Hajj Hussain Khorasani, and the two Hajjas"

Volume One
Ibn al-Qayyim · Madārij al-Sālikīn
  1. "For example, he said: "If I had wealth, I would do as so-and-so does, who fears his Lord with his wealth, maintains family ties, and gives its due right." He said, "They are equal in reward." During the Farewell Pilgrimage, the Prophet, peace be upon him, wished that he had performed the lesser pilgrimage and exited the state of ihram without offering the sacrificial animal, as he had combined the pilgrimage rites."

  2. "Will any companion look back to his fellow today? They remind them of their gathering and companionship in this world, just as a stranger reminds a native of their companionship in travels: "Were we not with you?" We fasted as you fasted, prayed as you prayed, recited as you recited, gave charity as you gave charity, and performed pilgrimage as you performed pilgrimage."

  3. "It is not obligatory to earn for paying زَكَاة, and there is debate about its obligation for performing the pilgrimage. The stronger evidence suggests it is obligatory as it falls under the category of ability and enables one to perform the pilgrimage, though the prevalent view is that it is not obligatory."

Book 30: The Condemnation of Self-Delusion
Imam al-Ghazali · Ihya’ ‘Ulum al-Din
  1. "Another group is deceived by the pilgrimage. They embark on the Hajj without addressing past injustices, settling debts, seeking parental approval, or ensuring halal provisions. They might even engage in these activities after their obligatory Islamic pilgrimage has been fulfilled."

Al-Ghunya li-Ṭālibī Ṭarīq al-Ḥaqq — Volume One
Shaykh Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani · Timeless Classics
  1. "their heart and proclaim the tawbiyah for umrah, if performing tamattu, which is preferred, or for hajj alone, or for both hajj and umrah together. It is required to say, O Allah, I intend umrah or hajj or both, so make it easy for me and accept"

Book 31: The Book of Repentance
Imam al-Ghazali · Ihya’ ‘Ulum al-Din
  1. "If he dies before performing Hajj, he dies as a sinner. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "Whoever dies without performing Hajj, may he die as a Jew or Christian. The inability that arises after being able does not exempt him from Hajj."

  1. "it is considered weak. Al-Rabi narrated from Al-Shafi'i that Adam performed Hajj, and the angels met him, saying, Blessed is your pilgrimage, O Adam. We performed Hajj before you two thousand years ago."

Book 1: The Book of Knowledge
Imam al-Ghazali · Ihya’ ‘Ulum al-Din
  1. "The one who devotes their life to the nuanced details of debates in jurisprudence is like someone consumed by the intricacies of threads used to mend the pilgrimage narrative. Comparing these individuals to those who walk the path of heart rectification leading to the knowledge of unveiling is like comparing others to those who traverse the path of the pilgrimage or engage with its pillars."

  2. "The third aspect is engaging in the acts of Hajj, step by step. Once the pilgrimage is completed, and the state of ihram is left behind, along with the farewell Tawaf, the pilgrim is ready to experience the grandeur and majesty of the journey, holding different levels of understanding from the initial preparation to its conclusion."

  3. "From the beginning of the desert paths to their end, and from the start of the Hajj rituals to their completion, each stage holds significance. A person who begins with the pillars of Hajj is closer to happiness than one who is merely preparing provisions and a mount,"

Umar ibn al-Khattab
Ibn Kathir · Timeless Classics
  1. "so that if anything befell one tribe, its affair would not be hidden from its neighbors. The situation grew very grave, and that was in Dhu al-Qa'da of the year thirteen. Umar led the people on the pilgrimage in this year; some say that Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf led them and that Umar did not make the pilgrimage this year, and God knows best."

Uthman ibn Affan
Ibn Kathir · Timeless Classics
  1. "Others said: Uthman ibn Affan, may God be pleased with him, led the people on the pilgrimage. The first is the better known, for Uthman was unable to make the pilgrimage in this year on account of a nosebleed which afflicted him, along with the people, in this year, until it was feared for him;"

  2. ""Truly we belong to God, and to Him we return." When this happened, the people thought it very grave, and most of the people kept to their houses. The time of the pilgrimage came, and the Mother of the Believers A'isha went out on the pilgrimage in this year. It was said to her:"

  3. "Fars, Kirman, Sijistan and the whole of Khurasan." He said: "Then assuredly I will make my thanks to God for it that I enter the state of pilgrimage for an umra from this very place, girded for it." And he entered the state of pilgrimage for an umra from Nishapur."

Book 17: Etiquettes of Travel
Imam al-Ghazali · Ihya’ ‘Ulum al-Din
  1. "The hadith that he applied kohl to the right eye three times and to the left eye twice was narrated by al-Tabarani, though with a weak chain. The hadith that when he returned from Hajj, a battle, or other travels, he would utter the takbir was previously mentioned in the section on Hajj."

Book 32: Patience and Gratitude
Imam al-Ghazali · Ihya’ ‘Ulum al-Din
  1. "The hadith "Patience is a treasure from the treasures of Paradise" is unique and I have not found it recorded. Once he was asked, "What is faith? and he responded, "Patience. The hadith about Hajj states, "Hajj is Arafah," understood to mean its chief part is 'Arafah."

The Wholesome Rain of Good Words
Ibn al-Qayyim · Timeless Classics
  1. "equivalent, whether physical or financial, like the pilgrimage of voluntary hajj. This is explicitly mentioned in the hadith of Abu Huraira. The poor emigrants came to the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him and said, O Messenger of Allah, the wealthy have taken"

Ibn Battuta · Rihla — The Travels of Ibn Battuta
  1. "morning. I was accompanied by twelve impoverished scholars, including an imam, two skilled reciters, and a servant, all well arranged. Account of the King of Eid-Hajj and Tastar. During my entry, the King of Eid-Hajj was Sultan Atabek Afrasiyab, the son of Sultan"

  2. "honored by Allah. That year, King Al-Nasir, the Sultan of Egypt, performed his final pilgrimage. He was generous to the people of the two holy sanctuaries and the neighbors. During this pilgrimage, King Al-Nasir killed Prince Ahmad, said to be his son, and also"

  1. "be pleased with him, The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, performed hajj on a worn-out mount and a cloak that we thought was worth four dirhams. When his mount stood still, he said, Here I am, O Allah, with a hajj that has no reputation or ostentation."
