Abu al-Samad narrated from Malik ibn Dinar, who said, I found in some wisdom that Allah destroys the bones of those who speak according to the whims of the people, and I found in it that there is no good for you in knowing what you do not know if you do not act upon what you have learned. The example of that is like a man who gathered firewood and tied a bundle, then went to carry it, but could not manage it, so he added another to it."

The first to greet him with it was al-Mughira ibn Shu'ba, or, it is said, another, and God knows best. Ibn Jarir said: Ahmad ibn Abd al-Samad al-Ansari told me: Umm Amr bint Hassan al-Kufiyya, who had reached a hundred and thirty years, told me, from her father, who said: When Umar came to rule they said: "O Successor of the Successor of the Messenger of God.""
