How the scholars invoke Ar-Raḥmān.

  1. "killing them for your uncle al-Fakih, may Allah fight you." 'Umar also criticized Khalid, to which Khalid replied, "I took them for the killing of your father." 'Abd al-Rahman responded, "You are lying. I killed my father's killer with my own hands, and if I had not, you would be killing Muslims because of my father in the time of ignorance." Khalid then asked, "Who told you they had embraced Islam?" 'Abd al-Rahman replied, "All the members of the expedition." Khalid said, "The Messenger of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, came to me with orders to attack them, so I attacked." 'Abd al-Rahman responded, "You have lied about the Messenger of Allah.""

  2. ""I thought you would decline it; I did not think you would contend for it." Then, once Talha had arrived, the matter came to this: three of them yielded their claim to three. Al-Zubayr yielded what he was entitled to of the command to Ali; Sa'd yielded his part in it to Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf; and Talha gave up his right to Uthman ibn Affan, may God be pleased with him. Then Abd al-Rahman said to Ali and Uthman: "Which of you two will withdraw from this matter, so that we entrust it to him, and God and Islam be upon him that he appoint the better of the two who remain?" The two elders, Ali and Uthman, were silent. So Abd al-Rahman said:"

  3. ""The best among you are those who are best to my wives." As a result, Abd al-Rahman bequeathed a garden valued at four hundred thousand for them. Abd Allah ibn Ja'far al-Zuhri narrated that Umm Bakr bint al-Miswar reported Abd al-Rahman sold a piece of land to Uthman for forty thousand dinars and distributed it among the poor of Banu Zuhra, the emigrants, and the Mothers of the Believers. Al-Miswar brought Aisha her share, and she asked who sent it. Upon hearing it was from Abd al-Rahman, she said, "Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say,"

    — Imam al-Dhahabī, Volume 1

  4. "While A'isha was in her house she heard a sound in Medina, and said: "What is this?" They said, "A caravan of Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf's, come from Syria carrying everything." He said: It was seven hundred camels. He said: And Medina shook with the sound. A'isha said, "I heard the Messenger of God, God's peace and blessings be upon him, say: 'I have seen Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf entering Paradise crawling.'" That reached Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf and he said: "If I can, I will enter it standing," and he gave it, with its saddles and its loads, in the way of God."

    — Ibn Kathir, Uthman ibn Affan
