زكريا
Definition

How the scholars use Zakariyya.

  1. "O you of unmanned resolve, where are you, and the road is a road wherein Adam laboured, and for whose sake Nuh wailed; on it the Friend of God was hurled into the fire, and Isma'il was laid down for the slaughter; Yusuf was sold for a paltry price and lingered in prison some few years; Zakariyya was sawn asunder with the saw, and the chaste and continent lord Yahya was slain; Ayyub endured affliction, and Dawud's weeping passed all measure; and there walked among the wild beasts and Muhammad bore poverty and every kind of injury. And you — you swagger about in amusement and play."

    — Ibn al-Qayyim, al-Fawāʾid — Points of Benefit, Volume One

  2. "Juwayriya said, from Nafi, who said: When Khalid died, nothing was found of his but his horse, his slave and his weapons. The judge al-Mu'afa ibn Zakariyya al-Jariri said: Ahmad ibn al-Abbas al-Askari told us: Abdullah ibn Abi Sa'd told us: Abd al-Rahman ibn Hamza al-Lakhmi told me: Abu Ali al-Harnazi told us, saying: Hisham ibn al-Bakhtari came in with some men of the Banu Makhzum to Umar ibn al-Khattab, and he said to him: "O Hisham, recite to me your poem on Khalid.""

    — Ibn Kathir, Umar ibn al-Khattab

  3. "and Zakariyya al-Saji also related it from the hadith of Abd al-Wahhab ibn Musa ibn Abd al-Aziz ibn Umar ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf, and from al-Zuhri as well, from Abu al-Zinad, from Hisham ibn Urwa, from his father, from Aisha, who said: My father went out with his sword drawn, riding upon his mount, toward the valley of al-Qassa. Then Ali ibn Abi Talib came and took hold of the reins of his mount and said: Where are you going, O successor of the Messenger of God?"

    — Ibn Kathir, Abu Bakr al-Siddiq
